Do You Have Balance In Your Life?
Are you unhappy with your life? Does it feel like your life is out of control? At times do you have the feelings of being overwhelmed? After reading those questions did you stop and say, “That’s me.” or “Wow, now that I think about it, that could be me or (put in the name of someone you know).
If you can identify with those questions, you probably have a problem with balancing your life’s priorities. You may need to step back and look at your life and put balance back into your life.
Balance, one would think is needed and easy to do, but in real life it is hard to apply. With the demands that are put on us everyday from our professional and personal lives it is difficult to imagine a life that allows us to relax, enjoy pursuing our hobbies and being with friends and loved ones.
With the pressures and demands that are put on us, it is very easy for our lives to go out of balance. How many times have you said, “It’s the end of the month and I need to get the reports done?” Or, “It’s only going to take a couple of minutes to complete the project.” What about the complete this project.” Or have the boss that comes in and tells you, “I needed this 10 minutes ago.” We have all done these. What we have not realized is that if we don’t stop to realize what is going on, the daily demands of our professional and person lives slowly take over our life without us realizing it.
What happens when we don’t have balance in our lives? Relationships begin to suffer. You start missing those special times, children’s events, family get togethers, and those family dinners that have proven to be important. You begin to forget those special dates like birthdays and anniversaries. In the work environment fellow employees begin to avoid you as anger, short temper, yelling, etc. begin to become a common occurrence. Then with us, we may or may not notice an increase in health problems, depression, the feeling of being overwhelmed and not accomplishing what we want or what is expected of us.
How Do We Restore Balance?
First we need to look at our lives and be honest with ourselves and admit that our lives are out of balance. Next we need to look at the priorities in our lives and take the necessary steps to get them in line. We need to make life choices. “This may surprise you. There is no such thing as a ‘nervous breakdown.’ Nerves don’t break down. People choose to.” (Author unknown) We need to make choices in our lives like, exercising, diet and rest. We also need to achieve peace of mind also. Using meditation, visualization, breathing techniques to help you relax whether you need it immediately or over a period of time, can do this.
In theory, this all sounds easy to do and can be accomplished with little thought or effort. For any of us that have tried it, found it to be much harder then thought. Many of us need the help of others to keep us “on task.” If you are one of those or know of someone that always slips back into “the rut” of being out of balance. Then call us at Personal Development Group and inquire about our coaching services. Many professional athletes use the services of a personal coach to help them achieve their potentials and keep them “on task.”
Perhaps intuitively, great leaders and successful individuals throughout time have known the importance of having balance in their lives. Many of them have come to the realization that instead of living to work, they needed to work to live. As a result, they became much more rounded, more successful, better family members, better friends and live a much happier and contended life. These characteristics correlate to success and happiness in professional and personal lives. This is a WIN-WIN solution for family members, friends, fellow employees and most of all for ourselves.
Everyone deserves a better and happier life – especially you!
